THE QUESTION
When the disciples came ashore to Jesus after a night of fishing, what did they find?

B) A fire with fish on it, and some bread ✓
C) A basket of fruit and a jar of wine
D) A lamb roasting over a fire
A closer look
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to a group of His disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. They had been fishing through the night without catching anything. At daybreak, Jesus stood on the shore, though at first they did not recognize Him (John 21:1–4).
He told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat, and the catch was so large they could not haul it in. When they came ashore, they found a fire of burning coals with fish on it, and some bread (John 21:5–9).
There is a lovely detail in what happened next. Jesus invited them to breakfast, then took the bread and gave it to them, doing the same with the fish. The risen Lord shared an ordinary meal with His disciples (John 21:12–13).
As for the other answers: John names fish, bread, and burning coals in this scene. The basin and towel belong to the earlier account of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet in John 13. Fruit, wine, and a roasting lamb are not what John describes on this shore.
Alongside today’s promise of renewed strength, this breakfast gives us something simple to remember: following Jesus includes receiving His care. After a night on the lake, the disciples received food from His hands. We need not overlook ordinary gifts as we ask God to sustain us—a meal, time to rest, or kindness from another person. Today, make room to receive as well as give.
See you tomorrow for a new verse, prayer, and trivia. Have a blessed day. ♡
