THE QUESTION

A) Ishmael
B) Isaac ✓
C) Jacob
D) Lot
A closer look
Hagar named the spring where God found her Beer Lahai Roi, “the well of the Living One who sees me,” and Genesis adds a small note: it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered (Genesis 16:14). It’s the kind of detail you skim past. But the well shows up again.
When Abraham’s servant brings Rebekah home, Isaac has just come from Beer Lahai Roi (Genesis 24:62). And after Abraham dies, Isaac settles near it for good (Genesis 25:11). Think about that. Sarah’s son, the child of the promise, made his home beside the well named by the servant Sarah had sent away.
That’s how God sees. He didn’t notice Hagar for one afternoon and move on. He marked the place, and the family that had wronged her ended up drinking from it. “You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13) wasn’t a one-time comfort. It was a name that stayed true, and it’s still true for you.
