📖 Verse of the Day

“For we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow.”

Reflection:

Job 8:9 is startling in its honesty: we were born yesterday, we know nothing, we're shadows. Most days we pretend otherwise, exhausting ourselves trying to control everything, predict outcomes, secure guarantees.

But what if this verse is freedom disguised as limitation?

Children don't panic about not knowing everything. They ask questions without shame, trust without proof, love without calculating the risk. That's the wisdom Job points us toward—not the burden of having answers, but the relief of having a Father who does.

Yes, our days are shadows. But shadows prove something real exists—something solid casting them. Our brief lives point to God's eternal one. Our partial knowledge points to His complete understanding.

This changes everything. Instead of frantically trying to leave a legacy, we can simply love well today. Instead of needing to understand God's plan, we can trust His character. Every morning we wake up "knowing nothing" is another chance to learn from the One who knows everything.

Ask Yourself:

  • What am I exhausting myself trying to control that I need to release to God?

  • Where am I frantically building a legacy instead of simply loving well today?

🙏 Prayer of the Day

Dear Father,

I confess I've been exhausting myself pretending to know more than I do. Trying to control what only You can. Acting like this temporary life is all there is.

Thank You that admitting I "know nothing" isn't defeat—it's freedom. I don't have to have the answers because You do. I don't have to secure my future because You hold it.

Help me trust like a child again—asking without shame, believing without proof, loving without calculating. Today, I rest in Your knowing.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
