📖 Verse of the Day

Reflection:

Many of us learned early that love is earned: be good and you're praised, mess up and you brace for distance. No one had to teach us this—we absorbed it, and somewhere along the way, we quietly decided God must work the same way.

But John tells a different story in a single sentence: "We love because he first loved us."

Before you ever bowed your head in prayer, Christ bowed His head on the cross. Before your first whispered "I'm sorry," there was already an empty tomb. Before you ever loved God—or anyone else—there was a love that saw you fully, knew you completely, and chose you anyway.

John built his identity on this. He never called himself the disciple who loved Jesus most, but "the disciple whom Jesus loved." He knew we don't generate love for God; we respond to a love that reached us first.

Your devotion doesn't earn His love. His love is what awakens your devotion. And He has never changed His mind. You woke up this morning already held, already wanted, already loved—not because of who you are, but because of who He is.

Start there. Let everything else be overflow.

Ask Yourself:

• Where am I still treating God’s love like something I have to earn?

• Who is one person I can love today as an overflow of the love God has already given me?

🙏 Prayer of the Day

Dear Father,

So much of me still believes I have to earn Your love. When I get it right, I feel close to You; when I fail, I pull back and assume You must be disappointed. But You loved me first—before my best days and my worst.

Today, help me live like that's true. Let Your love be the ground under my feet and the air I breathe. When shame or striving rises, remind me I am already held, already wanted, already Yours. From that rest, teach me to love others the way You first loved me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
