- Trivia Answer: Who Said, “My Lord and My God!”?
THE QUESTION
A week after Easter, one disciple finally saw the risen Jesus for himself. Who exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!”?
A) Peter
B) John
C) Thomas ✓
D) Philip
A closer look
Thomas wasn’t with the others the first time the risen Jesus appeared to them. When they told him, he said, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe” (John 20:25).
A week later, Jesus came again and said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see My hands” (John 20:27). Then He added words for everyone who would believe in Him later, you included: “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).
Peter is a natural pick: he was the one who said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). But the words in that locked room were Thomas’s.
The wounds Jesus showed Thomas are the ones Isaiah wrote about in today’s verse: “by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
