- Trivia Answer: Who Visited the Potter’s House?
A marred pot, a patient potter, and a lesson from God.
THE ANSWER IS B
Jeremiah
“Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand.”
THE QUESTION
God once sent a prophet down to a potter’s house to watch him work at the wheel, because He wanted to teach him a lesson through the clay. Who was the prophet?
A) Isaiah
B) Jeremiah ✓
C) Ezekiel
D) Jonah
A closer look
God told Jeremiah, “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you My message” (Jeremiah 18:2). So Jeremiah went, and he found the potter working at the wheel (Jeremiah 18:3).
Then something went wrong. The pot the potter was shaping was marred in his hands. But he didn’t throw the clay away. He “formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him” (Jeremiah 18:4).
That was God’s lesson: “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand” (Jeremiah 18:6). The same clay, still in the same hands, shaped again.
If you picked Isaiah, that was a clever guess. Today’s verse is his, and he used the very same picture: “We are the clay, You are the potter” (Isaiah 64:8).
