A closer look

Isaiah saw the Lord seated on a throne, with the seraphim calling to one another, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty” (Isaiah 6:1-3). His first words were “Woe to me! I am ruined!” (Isaiah 6:5). Then one of the seraphim touched his lips with a live coal from the altar and told him his guilt was taken away (Isaiah 6:6-7). Only then did God ask, and Isaiah didn’t hold back.

If you picked Abraham, Moses or Samuel, you were close. Each of them answered God with “Here I am” (Genesis 22:1; Exodus 3:4; 1 Samuel 3:4). Isaiah is the one who added, “Send me!”

Today’s verse says God’s faithfulness “continues through all generations” (Psalm 100:5). Abraham, Moses, Samuel and Isaiah lived centuries apart, and God was faithful to every one of them. He still is today.
