A closer look

Enoch lived long before the flood. After his son Methuselah was born, he “walked faithfully with God 300 years” (Genesis 5:22). Then one day he was simply gone, “because God took him away” (Genesis 5:24).

The book of Hebrews says he “did not experience death” and was “commended as one who pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5). And his son Methuselah lived 969 years, longer than anyone else in the Bible (Genesis 5:27).

Noah makes sense: the Bible says he “walked faithfully with God” too (Genesis 6:9). Enoch, his great-grandfather, is the one God took.

Enoch’s whole life was a walk with God. Today’s verse looks ahead to the joy at the end of that path: “You will fill me with joy in Your presence” (Psalm 16:11).
