A closer look

It was the evening of the first Easter. Two followers of Jesus were walking home to Emmaus with downcast faces when a stranger joined them and opened the Scriptures to them. Their hearts were burning, but they still didn’t know Him (Luke 24:13-32).

When He acted as if He were going farther, they urged Him, “Stay with us.” He went in, sat down at their table, and broke the bread. In that moment their eyes were opened (Luke 24:28-31).

If you thought of His scars, that came later the same evening, when He showed His hands and feet to the disciples in Jerusalem (Luke 24:39-40).

Two tired travelers opened their door to a stranger, and Jesus Himself sat down at their table. That’s the promise of today’s verse (Revelation 3:20).
