A closer look

Abram, later called Abraham, was old and still had no children (Genesis 15:3). So God took him outside, told him to count the stars if he could, and promised his family would be just as many (Genesis 15:5).

“Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness” (Genesis 15:6). Years later Isaac was born, and Paul points back to this promise when he writes about faith (Romans 4:18).

If you thought of Deuteronomy, that’s understandable. Moses later told Israel that God had made them “as numerous as the stars in the sky” (Deuteronomy 1:10).

The same stars that made David marvel at God’s care once carried a promise to an old man still waiting for a child. God hadn’t forgotten him, and He hasn’t forgotten you (Psalm 8:3-4).
